I'm excited to be attending the annual conference of the Society for Spirituality and Social Work that will be in Los Angeles June 18-20th. This will be my first time at the conference and I'm looking forward to immersing myself in a sea of social workers who share my interests! You can take a look at the conference brochure here. Here is some information about the society in case you might be interested in joining:
The Society for Spirituality and Social Work was founded in 1990, in Ed Canda's words, "in order to create connections and mutual support among social workers of many contrasting spiritual perspectives." He further commented that the Society is committed to developing "innovative approaches to spiritually sensitive social work practice and education."
The Society has sponsored or supported
- national and international conferences,
- curriculum interchanges,
- workshops and presentations,
- a refereed periodical newsletter and…
- inclusion of the Journal of Religion & Spirituality in Social Work as a membership benefit
These events and materials are designed to promote research, development of theory, and dissemination of best practices in the field. Gatherings have included experiential workshops designed to share a variety of spiritual practices and to engage participants in activities that deepen understanding of spiritual dimensions of life.
