Just got home from watching the film "Shutter Island". Not the best film I ever watched, but with a date as wonderful as my wife, I can't really complain. I've always found that the weekends are a different experience during the Fast because the days have a different rhythm. The week days are work days and fly by. Weekends are more of a crawl. Today was a bit busy though. Watching our son in the morning, a trip to the dentist, homework and working on my dissertation proposal. I had a little bit of a cold but fasted anyway. I hope to kick this cold soon which is a bit of an annoyance. My wife's parents were good enough to help with child care while my wife was at work so it was nice to see them here and there throughout the day.
I started the day with yogurt and a pear (I've recently rediscovered pears). I had a few clementines too which are my favorite fruit I think. I threw some Goldfish out the front door so our son could get to watch the birds. He can't quite say bird but will point and say, "B", "B", "B". It's very cute.
I broke the fast with a couple of all beef hot dogs and another slice of that apple pie. Not bad for the first Saturday of the fast.
"We beseech God to assist His people that they may observe the most great and exalted Fast, which is to protect one's eye from beholding whatever is forbidden and to withhold one's self from food, drink and whatever is not of Him. We pray God to confirm His loved ones that they may succeed in accomplishing that which they have been commanded in this Day." (Compilations, The Importance of Obligatory Prayer and Fasting)
