FYI: North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work

I wanted to help get the word out about a great conference that will be coming up in June. I especially wanted to invite readers who may practice in one of the helping professions and live in Western Canada or nearby to consider attending. Yours truly will be presenting a paper at the conference and it would be great to see you there. Complete information is included below:

The 5th North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work, University of Calgary, Canada, June 17 to 19, 2010

The Canadian Society for Spirituality and Social Work will host the 2010 conference at the University of Calgary, in Calgary, AB on June 17-19, 2010. This international conference on spirituality and professional helping will be of interest to members of diverse helping professions as it brings together, from a variety of disciplines, academics, researchers, graduate students and practitioners, to discuss and explore the important roles spirituality plays in responding to problems and challenges that come about in response to economic,
environmental and social decline. The conference will enrich professional practice and scholarship through workshops, presentations, and conversation among participants from diverse professional backgrounds. Registration, accommodation and other conference
information is published on the website of the Canadian Society for Spirituality and Social Work.

This conference also marks the first time that it is being held in Western Canada. It encourages practitioners to join students and academics in discussions and practice building sessions that will be offered by presenters from eight countries and includes many persons prominent in the field. It is eligible for Category A (ACSW) credits. Detailed information, schedule and registration, can be found at:http://www.spiritualityandsocialwork.ca.

  1. When I entered the field of social work in the mid-seventies, there was little discussion about spirituality and religion. I'm very excited about this conference and that the importance of spirituality is recognized.

    Thanks for sharing this information.

  2. Glad to hear it Liz. You might consider joining the organization or better yet attending the conference. If there are any other social workers reading this blog, I'd love to hear from you about this issue or spirituality in social work.
