I am interested in the specter of racism both within and outside the African-American culture in the U.S .
At least a large portion of the novel is set in Harlem, New York, and I would be interested in entering into a dialog with you and others you might be able to point me to who may be interested. Since I am a relative outsider to the U.S and Harlem particularly I am not privy to the subtle aspects of the issues of racism there. I am seeking then some objectivity or alternate views on racism in the U.S.

I would also be interested in the conclusions which arise from the conference you mention taking place in Greenacre in February. I suppose you will most probably make an entry in your blog about the conclusions of this conference.

Thank you in advance for any response to my questions.

Kind regards Dimi

Liz I agree, one of the things that many of these ...

Liz I agree, one of the things that many of these trainings lack is a spiritual view of the human beings whose attitudes and behaviors they are trying to change. They SO wanted to believe they didn't have a racist bone in their bodies, mainly because they figured they'd, "Sat through all those diversity trainings." When I'd point out to them that they weren't calling on the black kids in the room, only the Latino kids, they'd be so angry, like I was talking about their momma or something!

So many believed that attending diversity trainings in undergrad meant that they'd eliminated any vestige of racism from their psyche.
