i heard someone at this conference mention PBS' annual Black History Month special (most segregated month in America?), hosted by Henry Louis Gates. interactions w/various well and lesser-known African Americans in the wake of DNA testing to determine what proportion of their heritage has African origins. know wot? if i had any suspicions about my origins, after that letter i'd be LOOKING for exactly how much African heritage might be enriching my spirit! if there's no other argument for intermarriage, here you have it! if there's no other argument for truly grasping our behest, here it is again. Phillipe, thank you for taking pains to let people who missed this opportunity (and it will not come again, no matter who gathers) know what happened in that irreplaceable moment.

A very moving blog - I am awestruck at how creative people have been at approaching things this way. I am sure anyone in a community that has not been as cohesive and mobilised as it should be mainly due to history will read your blog as I did and see a different way of looking at the issues so thank you for sharing this.

Can I ask, were you in a group who were resistant to the chains idea initally, or is your community one that will happily participate?

Phillipe, I have to agree with Lev, this made my day, too. I am practically in tears. This has touched me so much! I'm not only going to email a link to this post to the Baha'is of African descent in my area, but I'm going to ask them to pass it along to others.

And I'm going to ask a few to come over my place to pray and study the letter within the next two weeks. (I have to give folks a heads up because there is an IPG going on in our Cluster, and I don't want to detract energy or resources from that.)

I am sorry I couldn't be there, but if there are any plans for another conference, I will make every effort to be in house!

This post just made my day. Congratulations to all the organizers, and to all the participants. Out of respect for the work you've done, and love for this Cause, I'll share the June 3rd letter with someone this weekend.
